East End Wellness

Last Saturday I attended the East End Wellness Center in Riverhead.  They did some test and other related stuff.  To make a long story short, I was given 6 vials to take, twice daily.  So far so good.  I feel myself having more energy, sleeping better and generally just feeling better.  I guess this is a good thing.  I have a follow-up visit in a another week or so.  My daughter went with me as well and she too noticed a difference.  The East End Wellness Center is not affiliated with Arbonne.  A lot of my co-workers from the Federal Government attend.   Everyone that I know that goes appears to like it.

I figured I'm taking care of my outside naturally, I might as well take care of the inside in the same way.  www.jamesstewart.myarbonne.com

Why Vegan Skin Care and Makeup Products

WHY VEGAN MAKEUP AND SKIN CARE PRODUCTS ARE THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE

It has been a while since I transitioned from using mainstream cosmetics products to the better alternatives. The whole process of switching was an interesting (and slightly frustrating) one. It wasn’t too hard for me, because I was familiar with a lot of the chemicals that I was noticing in the ingredient lists and the ones I didn’t know about, I learned about them swiftly. My background in chemistry helped me out a bit there, but I realize that it isn’t the case for many of you out there. A lot of people do want to switch from the toxic products to the better ones, but they don’t have the patience to go through the whole process of learning why, what products are great alternatives, and where to find these alternative products. Since the whole ‘safe cosmetics’ movement is just about catching on now, I thought it is important for me to explain why people out there should trust non-toxic cosmetics, especially the vegan ones.
A lot of people out there think that vegan and/or safe mineral makeup and skin care products can’t perform as well as the drugstore and department store products. That is a common misconception. There are people who also feel put off by the word ‘vegan’. You don’t have to be on a vegan diet to use vegan cosmetic products – these products are just about the safest products that you can apply on yourself and that is all! I will try to explain that as much as I can here.
Many of us face a lot of difficulties in finding the right kind of makeup for ourselves. We visit drugstores, department stores, and beauty shops in hopes of finding the type of makeup that our skin will like. Some of us are lucky to find solutions, but often they are short-lived. Our skin starts to exhibit allergic reaction of some kind to our makeup and body care products, and then we are back to square one. Up until recently, most of us didn’t consider how toxic our everyday products can be, because we trusted that the large companies out there had our best interest in their product formulations. Mainstream companies have only their best interest in their product design – if parabens will increase their products’ shelf-life, they wouldn’t hesitate to use them. They don’t much care that parabens are harmful for us and have shown estrogenic activities in labs. That’s just one example.
Harmful toxins are present in every single mainstream body care and makeup products that we use. You can see that by reading the ingredients’ list on any of these products. Unfortunately, these are the very same products that are more conveniently available to us. These products use synthetic chemicals, animal byproducts, little or none vegetable byproducts, and so on. They mostly use ingredients that are cheap, so that the profit margins will be large. At the end, the consumers suffer without realizing why they are suffering, they try all kind of products in hopes of solving their skin issues, and start to frequent the dermatologist’s office.
My point is, you’ll do yourself a favor if you save your own body from toxins. There is no reason why you should rub preservatives, skin and eye irritants, synthetic dyes and fragrances, and chemicals that will potentially damage your lungs or brain cells! You can use safe cosmetics that perform just as well if not better than the mainstream products.
Safe cosmetics are any cosmetics that use safe minerals, vegetable byproducts, essential oils, fruit and vegetable extracts, floral extracts, nuts, various roots, various waxes (i.e. bees wax), and very low risk chemicals (Cetearyl Glucoside – can be natural or synthetic and Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate). On the other hand, vegan cosmetics are those that use fruit and vegetable extracts and/or byproducts, various roots, plant extracts, essential oils, floral extracts, nuts, and very low risk chemicals – the difference is that vegan products do not use any animal byproducts; that includes waxes. So, safe cosmetics do not imply vegan cosmetics.
Many people have highly sensitive skin, their skin is allergic to even bees wax. Vegan skin care and makeup products are especially suited for them. If you are one who isn’t sure about what your skin is reacting to, then giving vegan products a try is worth your while. I am not saying that vegan products might end your troubles – if the vegan product is using clove essential oil and you’re allergic to that, then you might have to find a product free of cloves. Either way, you will be better off finding a solution for your needs from safe products than from toxic products. Here is a short of list vegan ingredients:
Water, Apricot Kernel Oil, Jojoba oil, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Cetearyl Glucoside, Xanthan Gum, Essential oils, flowers, floral extracts, fruits, fruit extracts, vegetables, vegetable extracts, vitamins, organic soy, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (non nano particles), Iron Oxides, Zinc oxide, silica, kaolin clay, various tea, various roots (i.e. ginger, turmeric), various seed oils, serecite, candellila wax, cocoa butter, castor oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Sesame Oil, Avocado Butter, Macademia Nut Oil, vitamin E (rice based, wheat germ based, soy based), almond oil, Lavender Hydrosol, Soy Lecithin, Lavender and Peppermint, carnauba wax, Shea butter, and various herbs.
This is not a complete list of all vegan ingredients – there are so many creative formulators out there who are infusing more vegan ingredients in their products that not only function well, but also are very beneficial for our skin and well-being. By wearing such products, not only do we enhance our beauty, but also nourish our skin. For example, vitamin E is an antioxidant – it acts as an anti-aging element; neem has anti-inflamnatory elements and helps to prevent acne; turmeric is a natural bleach and helps in reducing visibility of scars.
More research is being conducted on the safety of various chemicals, even the ones that are claimed to be low risk right now. Keep yourself up-to-date with the safety of different chemicals by checking them out on Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or on Environmental Working Group (EWG).
Vegan cosmetics are the wave of the future – these are the products that are safe to use and produced from natural ingredients that weren’t created in labs. These are so safe that there is no need for testing on helpless animals to determine their safety and performance. Vegan cosmetics are safe for us, safe for the environment, and are cruelty free. I hope that this blogpost gave you a general overview of why you should consider vegan cosmetics and what they are.

To Grill or Not to Grill, That was the Question

When I left work on Friday I intended to grill on Saturday.  When I woke up Saturday morning, I intended to grill later that day.  Later that day came and I didn't grill.  I meant too and everything.  I had a steak ready to go and everything.  I guess I didn't feel like cleaning the grill and buying charcoal and lighter fluid.

3 Generations

My son, father and I were outside this morning.  Anthony was exploring snails and other bugs.  Then we had a football toss with the nerf football.  That was fun.  My sister and I are getting ready for the gym soon.  The gym should welcome me back with open arms.
